Veterinarians
Ada Caruthers, DVM
An avid equestrian, Dr. Caruthers enjoys fox hunting and attends local and A-rated horse shows with her daughter.

She received her DVM degree from the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, and interned at the New Jersey Equine Clinic, a large referral hospital. After three years of equine field experience, Dr. Caruthers formed Oaklawn Veterinary Clinic from her home at Oaklawn Farm in Ashland, Virginia, where she and her husband also operated a farm, horse boarding and riding school program.

Dr. Caruthers has been offering alternative techniques for more than 10 years and continues to add to her knowledge by attending seminars and classes. She is able to provide chiropractic, acupuncture, tui-na and Chinese herbology, enabling her to offer a well-rounded and integrative approach to equine health care.
 
Laura Markey, DVM
Laura Markey received her DVM degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She joined Dr. Caruthers at Newmarket Equine Clinic in 2006 and has become an integral member of the veterinary team.

Dr. Markey grew up on a horse farm in Rockville, Virginia and completed her undergraduate degree at the College of William & Mary. Her professional interests include lameness and dentistry.

Dr. Markey remains active in equine activities and especially enjoys trail riding with her Quarter Horse, CG. Her other interests include volleyball, skiing and outdoor activities.

Lois Turner
Lois Turner has been with Newmarket Equine for 10 years. Lois maintains client records and performs billing, inventory management, accounts receivable and accounts payable services for the practice.



 
Nancy Perry
Nancy Perry is a recent addition to the practice. Nancy worked in a local small animal veterinary practice for 19 years prior to joining Newmarket, where she assists clients with scheduling and manages the day-to-day activities of the clinic in support of the veterinarians.
